A much anticipated exhibit is coming to Carbondale Community Arts for the months of February and March of 2018, The Second Four Rivers Print Biennial, a juried exhibit of prints by artists from across the U.S., will be exhibited at Artspace 304. In collaboration with the SIUC Registered Student Organization “Southern Illinois Printworks,” the group will curate and install fine art prints selected by Lisa Bulawsky, Professor, Printmaking Area Coordinator, and the Director of Island Press in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.
Southern Illinois is located in the heart of the largest watershed in the contiguous United States. Bordered by the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Wabash rivers, it is also surrounded by regions rich with the traditions of fine art printmaking. Much like the convergence of waterways, the Four Rivers Print Biennial is the confluence of contemporary prints by artists from across the country. The exhibition was founded by Travis Janssen, Assistant Professor of Printmaking in the School of Art & Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
A special event will occur from 4 PM to 6 PM on Saturday, February 24th. Juror Lisa Bulawsky will deliver a lecture on her work at 4 PM, followed by award announcements and a reception until 6 PM. An additional “First Friday” reception will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on March 2nd. The exhibition will run from February 9th to March 23rd. Given the successful response to the 2016 and  2018 biennial, Southern Illinois Printworks will continue this juried exhibit every other year. Professor Janssen may be reached at . Information about current art exhibits are always available at CCA’s website . Also, watch CCA’s Facebook page and local media for details about exhibits and receptions.
