Dayemi Family Center’s 11th Annual Spring Fair
Expecting Mothers, Families with Children of all ages
$3 admission includes tickets to use at the Fair
Carbondale – It’s Spring and that means it’s time for the the Dayemi Family Center’s annual Spring Fair. It’s our 11th year and our kids are growing up. This means there will be more available for older kids and teens like safe archery, racing your best friend down a 30 ft inflatable archery course, and skill games like basketball to win great prizes.
This year, there will be some amazing live music by the Sycamores, Abundant Sunshine, and DJ Special K. Many of these young adults once attended the Dayemi Family Center and are performing to give back to their alma mater. “Its amazing to see how much these kids have grown up and to see what big hearts they have to donate their time to our Spring Fair,” says director Cale Cornelison.
Of course, no Spring Fair would be the same with out yummy fair food! There will be the usual hotdogs and burgers and drinks that available each year. New to the menu are a variety of homemade empanadas, non alcoholic mojitos, and fruit cups this year. Amira Ruperto, a 12 year old student at the Dayemi Family Center, will be helping alongside the adults by frying up the delicious empanadas. “There should be something for every palate,” replied Carolyn Deane, food coordinator for the Spring Fair. Amira Ruperto, a 12 year old student at the Dayemi Family Center, will be helping alongside the adults by frying up the delicious empanadas this year.
Also, since it is Mother’s Day Weekend there will be a host of great items in our Silent Auction like a pontoon rental, handicrafts from local artists like Andrea LeBeau, and even some homemade goods made to order like a tres leches cake and ice cream. Also, since no Mother’s Day would be complete without a homemade card this year’s fair will have a card making booth. Children, teens, and even adults can make a card which includes a polaroid photo.
All proceeds will go towards operating costs and tuition assistance at the Dayemi Family Center.
Our Mission Statement:
At the Dayemi Family Center pregnant mothers and families with children ages 0 to 16 years old build long lasting friendships and cooperatively raise, teach and learn from their children. We believe that young children learn best and develop a love of learning through play. Together we provide ample time for open-ended, creative play and provide structured play through gardening, cooking, movement, art, music, field trips and a weekly day at Dayempur Farm. We also model sustainability by sharing our resources with each other (e.g. clothes, toys, books). By practicing compassion, cooperation, creativity and love we hope to develop happy and healthy families.
